Georgia Cancer Foundation Announces New Coordinator for ChemoChic Program Two years ago, Smyrna resident Rudi Caruthers attended ChemoChic, a free Georgia Cancer Foundation program that helps women feel better emotionally and physically while undergoing chemotherapy treatments. “I was having a bad week all around but went at the insistence of my daughter,” Caruthers said. “I’m really glad I did. I emerged two hours later a much happier and more empowered woman.”
Today Caruthers is thrilled to begin serving as ChemoChic coordinator and believes that as a survivor, she can relate to the women attending this program. Diagnosed in 2004 with Stage II breast cancer, Caruthers underwent a bilateral mastectomy, eight rounds of chemotherapy, 37 radiation treatments, and reconstruction.
“I know firsthand the physical and emotional impact of cancer and chemotherapy,” said Caruthers. “That’s why I want to help these women. I want to show them how to regain their confidence by teaching them ways to feel better about themselves during this difficult time in their lives.”
As ChemoChic coordinator, Caruthers will market the program and line up nutritionists, yoga instructors, and oncology social workers to teach healthy eating tips, relaxation techniques, effective coping strategies, and much more. Caruthers herself will demonstrate creative scarf tying techniques and how to apply make up effectively.
“The power of this program is immeasurable,” says Caruthers. “It really enriches women’s minds, bodies, and spirits, and I’m very proud to be leading this cause.”
